- create a shape
- go to the object menu at the top of the screen
- click on pattern and make
- then you will see the pattern options
- after you're finish you click 'done'.
- create another shape
- then go to to the swatches panel
- A new pattern is added to you Swatches Panel.
- then the pattern will appear on the art-board
- and so on...
